Interests - Flying - Licensed Glider & Single Engine Pilot Ken's interest in racing started at a young age while watching the tv high lights of NASCAR on Wide World of Sports. Around that time, Ken's cousin Robert Dunning was snowmobile racing every weekend and won regularly. At age 10, Ken was able to enter the youth racing and won his first event at Pense, SK. In 1972, Robert and Ken's dad (Allan) and Uncle ventured into stock car racing at Kings Park Speedway in Regina. Ken helped by cleaning parts and fetching wrenches. Too young to be in the pits as a crew, he got in while selling popcorn and drinks to spectators and racers. The big events with the NASCAR CAN-AM series were special and Ken wanted to be like them. Ken's stock car racing career began in 1980 in the Claimer class at Kings Park Speedway. Finishing 10th out of over 100 cars registered and 5th in 1981. In 1983, Ken and some other racers started the Modified Street Stock class in Regina and then in 1985, re-introduced the Super Stock class. To increase car count, Ken and the rest of the Super Stock Class organized with Saskatoon creating the Saskatchewan Challenge Series. The Series later attracted some Alberta & BC cars and named it the Western Speed Association. Over the years, this series became the Western Racing League (WRL) and now the ARCA West Series. Ken has competed fully in the tour when it came to Saskatchewan tracks and has traveled to events in Medicine Hat AB, Calgary AB, Vernon BC and Kalispell Montana. Ken won the Regina Super Stock Championship twice in 1992 &1999. He has won the Saskatchewan Challenge Series in 1992, 92 & 95. Ken also set the Kings Park Speedway lap record at 16.72 at the Western Racing League race in 1999. Ken's future plans are to compete for the Super Late Model Championship at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon and racing at select ARCA West races.
